In this talk, Stefan Kautsch, Ph.D., assistant professor at Nova Southeastern University, will explore how humans affect the sustainability of our solar system. Kautsch will begin by discussing the consequences of light pollution on Earth, which may lead to the detectability of humans by an outside civilization. Kautsch will also speak on human plans that may affect solar-system sustainability, including NASA’s current proposal to capture and exploit an asteroid. To conclude, Kautsch will look at the possible consequences of astroengineering megaprojects, such as asteroid mining and orbit manipulation.
