ELIANE ELIAS: A TRIBUTE TO CHET BAKER

Opening set: SOUTH FLORIDA JAZZ ORCHESTRA

Olympia Theater at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts

174 E Flagler Street, Miami, FL 33131

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 9, 8PM

Co-presented by the Gusman Center

Eliane Elias is often noted for the sensuousness of her music. Reviewers fall sway to her distinctive and seductive voice, which draws from her Brazilian bossa nova roots, as well as the great jazz pantheon, classical music and her own compositional skills. With 23 albums to date, she has been nominated for five Grammy awards, along with other international accolades. For this special concert to close out the Festival, she performs with the renowned South Florida Jazz Orchestra, a big band featuring top locally-based jazz musicians led by Chuck Bergeron. This performance is a tribute to jazz icon Chet Baker, from her CD I Thought About You, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of Baker’s death. “Elias’ … is the most satisfying of the many Baker tributes that have surfaced of late, because the Brazilian pianist and vocalist so keenly appreciates a key shared attribute. Like the perennially misunderstood Baker, wrongfully pegged as a tragedian, Elias is first and foremost a sensualist.” – Jazz Times
