The FIU Concert Choir & FIU Women’s Chorus, under the direction of S. Mark Aliapoulios, perform sacred choral music from the acclaimed Gospel Mass and Gospel Magnificat. Both works were composed by Robert Ray, a liturgy team member of the National Office of Black Catholics, and have since become a standard part of the choral repertoire and are performed by churches, colleges, universities, orchestras and civic choral groups nationally and internationally. The Mass is Ray’s interpretation of 2000 years of liturgical tradition within the more contemporary music style of the Afro-American church.
