The Miami Gardens Commission for Women’s Second Annual Breast Cancer and Heart Disease Awareness Health Fair on October 26, 2013 at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex located at 3000 NW 199th Street, Miami Gardens, Fl. 33056. From 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 P.M.
The purpose of the health fair is to increase health awareness through education and prevention, the health fair will provide a valuable service to our community. We will be providing free Breast screenings by Community Life Support (Dr. Blemur) and Free Breast exams through Sister’s Network Miami Chapter (Pre-registration is required), follow-up support will be provided. We will also provide free basic health screenings such as, immunizations, blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol.
Heart Disease is the number one cause of death for both men and women in the United States claiming approximately one million lives annually. Every 33 seconds someone dies from cardiovascular disease, this year alone 920, 000 Americans will have a heart attack.
Breast Cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, exceeded only by lung cancer. The chance that breast cancer will be responsible for a woman’s death is about 1 in 36 (about 3%). Approximately 39,620 women will die from breast cancer in 2013.
There will be various medical professionals speaking about a variety of Breast Cancer, Heart Disease preventions, and cure. The topics will cover needed exams and different symptoms that may and will cause problems.
Brochures will be available to help the community become aware of the many health-related problems, programs, services and providers. The Health Fair will be open to both adults and children. Please alert your constituents or districts so they can benefit from these free services.
