Southern Command Aids Haiti’s Youngsters

Ribbon cutting events were held Oct. 15 for the inauguration of the newly-constructed schools at Mandarin and Ecole Pont Gaudin, both located near the City of Gonaives as part of Doral-based U.S. Southern Command’s Humanitarian Assistance Program (HAP) in Haiti. “This was great timing to ensure that the facilities were ready for the new school year,” said Cmdr. Dewayne Roby, the U.S. Navy’s officer in charge of the construction projects. U.S. Southern Command will provide nine emergency operations centers and disaster relief warehouses, eight community clusters and fourteen fire stations in locations throughout Haiti.
