A full day of hurricane exercise was held May 20 by the Office of Emergency Management, a division of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) as many post-disaster and recovery agencies and organizations participated at the county Emergency Operations Center in Doral.

“Bringing together community partners and testing plans at events such as the one today enhances Miami-Dade’s ability to rebound quickly following a disaster,” said Curt Sommerhoff, Fire-Rescue Assistant Director and County Emergency Management Director.

Through-out the year, the Office of Emergency Management, works with a variety of government, private, and nonprofit partners to develop, enhance and test the necessary plans, procedures, and systems needed to ensure that our community can recover from a disaster in an efficient and effective manner.

Partners regularly meet at the Emergency Operations Center to test specific plans and systems. The May 20 exercise focused on the ability of the County and its partners to coordinate sheltering and human services following a major hurricane.
