The First Annual “Taste of the Bay” food and fun extravaganza is well under way to becoming a reality, say organizers, and there’s only about a week left for any remaining restaurants and other vendors to join in before the Mar. 31 deadline.

Hosted by the Cutler Bay Business Association (CBBA), “Taste of the Bay” is scheduled to take place at the Palmetto Bay Village Center, 18001 Old Cutler Rd., and will feature a wide variety of foods prepared by more than 20 local restaurants as well as live music and other entertainment.

“This all started back in September,” said Darryl Boyette, president of the CBBA. “It’s been a lot of work, but it’s been fun. We’re working very hard on it and are promoting it throughout the county so that the very first year will be successful.”

A classic car show will appeal to auto aficionados, and an arts and crafts area and a countywide school art contest will bring a creative aspect to the large scale event that is designed to be fun for the entire family. A children’s play area, kid’s petting zoo and pony rides are included to please younger attendees. Prizes and giveaways should also add to the excitement.

Two bands have been booked to perform at different times in the rotunda area of the center, and between sets there will be a deejay to fill in musically.

Cyndi Rogg of the CBBA is getting excited about the coming event and notes that more and more people are becoming aware of the first time “Taste of the Bay” celebration.

“We’re getting applications and phone calls about this all day long because the posters are out in the community now,” Rogg said.

Similar events that allow attendees to sample the fare of multiple restaurants have been popular in communities such as Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, Pinecrest and others.

The event will take place on Sunday, May 15, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., so schools and other groups that may wish to participate need to contact organizers as soon as possible.

Potential vendors and sponsors should send an email to info@cbba.biz or call Cyndi Rogg at 305-815-1536. For more information, visit the official website at www.thetasteofthebay.com.
