Homestead Job Corps Center received a platinum award for their six years of volunteering with the KAPOW program. KAPOW volunteer Lesly Diaz is assigned to Ms. Tavita Duenes’ 2nd grade class at Redondo Elementary.

Once a month, volunteers like Diaz go into classrooms to show children the connection between their school experience and the world of work. Once a year, the children do a site visit.

On May 6, eighteen children from Ms. Duenes’ class toured Homestead Job Corps Center. They met with the Wellness Manager, Vocational Manager and other staff members and students to learn about careers such as Medical Assistant, Carpenter’s Helper, Security and Business Technology.
