Kids Week event attracts crowd to Southland Mall

Miami Heat mascot Burnie entertains the youngsters at Southland Mall’s Kids Week event.

The third annual Kids Week event at Southland Mall in Cutler Bay took place from July 23 through July 28 with thousands of people turning out for the event, according to Maggie Anzardo, the mall’s marketing director.

“Kids Week was a rousing success,” Anzardo said. “This mini kids’ convention happens every summer at Southland and features entertainment and educational fun for the entire family.”

Special features for youngsters and their families to enjoy included activities from Miami Children’s Museum, ESPN Deportes Miami Radio, up-close animal displays from Zoo Miami, back-to-school giveaways from Sprinkles magazine, Buffalo Wild Wing’s popular wing eating contest, and game show trivia courtesy of Superstar Productions. There even was a visit from the Miami Heat mascot, Burnie. “Event sponsor, ESPN Deportes Miami held the ‘ESPN Kid Reporter’ contest, and the winner got a chance to report live on the air during ESPN Deportes’ morning show Voces del Deporte,” Anzardo said. “Boys and girls alike signed up for the opportunity to report live on their favorite sports, but there could only be one winner —Samuel Sadovnik. Little Sammy was a big hit and won by unanimous vote.”

The Sadovnik family members also were the lucky recipients of a $500 Southland Mall gift card, which they were able to use for an instant shopping spree, just in time for back to school.
