Enjoy free admission at Deering Estate fee-free ‘PLAY’ Day scheduled Sept. 20

The Deering Estate at Cutler will offer free admission to all guests on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., as part of its annual Fee-Free “PLAY” Days.

Guests can enjoy complimentary admission as well as hands-on science activities and historic house tours — all for free. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

The Fee-Free “PLAY” Days were created to honor the Deering Estate’s partner organizations and the community. Partner organizations and program partners will be onsite providing information and a variety of activities. On Saturday, Sept. 20, the Deering Estate will honor the Scouts. The entire public can enjoy a variety of programs and activities for free.

Guests are invited to “PLAY” (Preservation, Learning, Adventure, Year- Round) and enjoy the many tours, educational programs, and special events that the estate has to offer.

Activities and programs on Saturday, Sept. 20:

Historic House Tours at 10:30 a.m., noon, 1:30 and 3 p.m.;

Writing and poetry workshop “Tree Tinkering” with Literary Artist in Residence Vanessa Garcia from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., ongoing in the Carriage House Classroom. “Tree Tinkering” explores a close-up and wide-lens view of nature through fun-filled creative writing. All ages welcome;

Miami-Dade Public Library System Bookmobile: The Bookmobile is a library on wheels where you can borrow books, music, audio books, videos and more. Residents of Miami-Dade County who live within the library’s taxing district can utilize this library-on-wheels. Patrons must have a current library card to checkout materials and these items may be returned to the Bookmobile or to any branch in the system.

Materials borrowed from branches may also be returned to the Bookmobile;

Mother Goose on the Loose Story- Telling Troupe with the Miami-Dade Public Library System: Join Mother Goose on the Loose for a fun-filled story time. There will be rhymes, stories, songs and more. For children through age 5;

Tropical fruit display provided by Fruit and Spice Park;

Challenge your knowledge in native Florida plants while hiking the nature trail as you complete a scavenger hunt;

The Deering Estate at Cutler, a Miami- Dade County Park, is located at 16701 SW 72 Ave. This 444-acre natural and archeological preserve and historic site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and serves as a center for education, culture and recreation.
