James Rogers of Cutler Auto Repair will conduct a fundraising event on Saturday, Sept. 24, to help with the creation of a library for the Old Cutler Academy Learning Center. Both are in Cutler Bay and have teamed up to bring a dream to reality.

“It’s a good project,” Rogers said. “Anything to help out local schools and the community to further education for the kids is always a good thing to get involved with. Education is so important. These kids are our future leaders. For a $20 donation for the library, you’ll get a free oil change, a free car wash and a raffle ticket.”

Prizes in the raffle drawing include a fishing trip, a spa package with massage, pedicure and manicure worth $125 and a free week of daycare at Old Cutler Academy worth $150. Mary Kay is donating a gift basket and several local restaurants are donating gift cards.

Mercy Hernandez, director of Old Cutler Academy and a community activist in her own right, is more than pleased to have Rogers lending a hand in the project.

“Our school has been very strong on literature, and by building a community library for the children and their families to have for outreach is a goal of ours right now,” Hernandez said. “Thanks to Cutler Auto Repair we’re going to have that dream come true. I hope everyone will come on by and support the community and support literature and the children. It’s the best auto repair shop in town.”

The fundraising event will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Cutler Auto Repair, 18630 SW 105 Ave., just off Marlin Road.

Old Cutler Academy, an EDGE accredited school in operation for more than 20 years, is located at 20222 Old Cutler Rd. Its website is www.oldcutleracademy.com.
