Temple Judea celebrates Glee-ful annual fundraiser

The winning group, “7 Tina’s and Benny,” performs.

Some 325 people attended Temple Judea’s annual premier fundraising event called “Glee: The Temple Judea Episode,” on Mar. 31, at the synagogue located in Coral Gables.

The event raised $50,000 in proceeds for Temple Judea’s yearlong activities and educational programs, now with 625 member families.

Cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction took place prior to the performances and dinner. The silent auction featured hundreds of items in the following categories: Experiences, Family Fun, Fashion & Jewelry, Getaways, Health & Beauty, Home, Sports and Wine & Dine. Catering was by Fare to Remember and wine and liquor provided by Sunset Corners Wine & Spirits.

The Pillars of Judah honorees were Temple Judea members Sheila and Owen Freed. The Glee emcee was Jeff Levey. “Mr. Schuester” was played by Rabbi Edwin Goldberg and “Coach Sue” was played by Cantorial Soloist Jodi Rozental. The cast director/choreographer was Linda Dykes. The competition was judged by Doug Bondy, Judi Matus and Phillip “Flip” Gassman. The Glee event was chaired by Valerie and Gary Berman.

The Glee teams were the “Latin Lovers,” “7 Tina’s and Benny,” “The Templetones” and The “Whooligans.” The 7 Tina’s and Benny won the competition. After the competition, Old Skool Gang provided musical entertainment with dancing.
