Youth Center staff will lead a waste reduction effort by promoting recycling collection and waste prevention activities.

To demonstrate its commitment to conserving natural resources and protecting the environment, the Coral Gables War Memorial Youth Center has launched a waste reduction program called “Recycle Today for a Better Tomorrow.”

Youth Center staff who are members of a “green team” will lead a waste reduction effort by promoting recycling collection and waste prevention activities. The program eventually will be implemented in other facilities such as Salvadore Tennis Center, Venetian Pool, Granada Golf Course and all city parks.

Specific materials to be collected for recycling include mixed paper, glass bottles, plastic bottles #1 to #7 and aluminum and steel cans. Mixed recyclables will be collected from bins located inside and outside the facility.

City employees will promote waste prevention by encouraging visitors to help reach the facility goal of recycling 25 percent of its waste in the first year. This new program is the latest city green initiative to help foster a sense of personal responsibility and appreciation for the environment in the Coral Gables community.
