SalernOrings are on the menu at the “Rat.”

There is an old favorite that’s making a comeback at the “Rat.” This month, the University of Miami re-introduced onion rings at the popular campus restaurant.

The appetizer got a new name as well, “SalernOrings,” after Coral Gables city manager Pat Salerno.

“I am honored by the gesture and the onion rings taste outstanding,” said Salerno, an onion ring aficionado.

Last year, when top university and city officials convened for their annual meeting, the city manager, an alumnus, jokingly shared a complaint with the University.

“Those delicious onion rings that sustained me through my college years are no longer on the menu,” he said at the time.

Shortly after the meeting, UM president Donna Shalala announced onion rings would return to the Rat. If you have a craving for some delicious comfort food, just stop in for an order of SalernOrings.
