Col. Lettie Bien (U.S. Army, Retired) and husband, Dr. David Schmitt, an internist/infectious disease specialist, are off to a new life’s adventure moving to Charlottesville, VA.
Having sold their home, the couple will be moving north. But before departing, a gathering of old friends helped give Bien a proper sendoff on July 14 at Cinco Cantina in the Village of Merrick Park. Among the many faces in the crowd seen enjoying the evening were former Coral Gables Mayor Don Slesnick and wife, Jeannett; Pinecrest Mayor Cindy Lerner; Sarah Herald; Ann Machado; Bill DuPriest, and Annette Alvarez, to mention a few.
Bien, a decorated Iraq War veteran, is an accomplished businesswoman, practicing attorney, former president of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce, community advocate and philanthropist who is sure to find many new challenges in Virginia, but promises to make many trips back as her ties to local charities remains a focus.
