Hannah Payne, a senior at Coral Gables High School, was presented with a $2,500 STAR scholarship from PEO, an international philanthropic and educational organization which promotes educational opportunities for women.

The STAR scholarship is based on excellence in leadership, extracurricular activities, community service, academics and potential for future success. The program is open to young women who are citizens or legal residents of the United States or Canada and who are graduating seniors at the time of application.

The PEO Sisterhood was founded Jan. 21, 1869, at Iowa Wesleyan College, Mount Pleasant, IA. There are nearly 6,000 local chapters in the U.S. and Canada with almost 250,000 members.

PEO has provided more than $250 million in financial assistance to over 95,000 recipients. The PEO Sisterhood also owns Cottey College, a fully accredited, private liberal arts and sciences college for women, located in Nevada, MO.
