Kansas’ “Jack of All Trades, Master of Two” Comes to South Florida – Wine and Conversation with Celebrity Sommelier, Doug Frost

On Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at 7:00 p.m., Wine by the Bay, presents its second Wine and Conversation Tastings with celebrity Sommelier, Doug Frost. (This past July, the Downtown retail wine store hosted a Penfolds Tasting with DLynn Proctor — one of the four Sommeliers featured in the film, Somm and currently Wine Ambassador for this legendary Australian wine producer.)

To wine professionals, Frost is revered for holding both the Master of Wine and Master Sommelier designations. Specifically, Frost was America’s 8th Master of Wine, the second in history to complete both exams, and, today, is still one of only four people in the world to have achieved both titles.

Frost will present some of Beringer’s most desirable wines including Beringer Private Reserve Cabernet (94 pts), Beringer Luminous Chardonnay (93 pts), Beringer Private Reserve Chardonnay (93 pts) and more, paired with delicious bites prepared by Chef Daniele Cosmo, Cielgourmet.

Wine aficionados will delight in Frost’s life story about a career that began as wine steward and waiter in 1970 and culminates today as critically acclaimed author of wine industry staples that include, On Wine and Uncorking Wine; as well as celebrated TV Host of Emmy Award nominated, Check Please!; and Judge on PBS’ The Winemakers.

“Like a lot of my peers in this business, I started out in theater. I’m afraid I wasn’t getting very far and like all out of work actors, I was working in restaurants,” commented Frost in an interview with Into Wine magazine. “But within a week or two of starting at my first white tablecloth establishment, I fell into wine, courtesy of a great guy (now the owner of Lang & Reed Winery – a great Cabernet Franc producer) named John Skupny. He was the sommelier at the restaurant and he took me to some wine tastings and I was hooked.”

Frost’s tales are endless, making for a spectacular evening of wine and conversation among friends. Bring a copy of Frost’s book for signing or some copies will be on hand for sale. The cost to attend is $65.00 per person and an advance ticket purchase with RSVP is required by calling 305.455.9791 or via Local Wine Events: http://www.localwineevents.com/events/detail/558265.
