Roadway Construction/Closure Activities:

· Bear Cut Bridge & West Bridge, Rickenbacker Causeway: Project No. 20120152: Design-Build Services for the Rehabilitation of West Bridge and Bear Cut Bridge, Rickenbacker Causeway: The scope of work for this project includes the design, construction, and independent construction engineering and inspection services required to rehabilitate Bridges No. 874541 (West Bridge) and No. 874544 (Bear Cut Bridge) on the Rickenbacker Causeway and replace the existing 12-inch water main attached to the Bear Cut and West Bridges with a new 16-inch ID HDPE water main pipeline under the bay bottom installed by the Horizontal Directional Drill method. Construction is anticipated to be substantially completed by July 3, 2014. For more information regarding this project, please visit the website at http://www.bearcutbridge.com. Mainline Closure: Bear Cut Bridge: The two lanes of east-bound traffic (headed to Key Biscayne) shifted to the north between the newly constructed median barrier wall and a temporary barrier wall. Traffic will remain in this pattern while the 14’ wide shared-use path on the south side of Bear Cut Bridge is constructed. Once the 14’ wide shared-use path is completed, the traffic will then be placed into the final alignment. Beginning June 19, 2014 a single lane closure will be set up heading eastbound towards Key Biscayne. The east bound shoulder and right (southernmost) traffic lane will be closed daily from 7:00 pm to 3:00 pm through July 3, 2014. All travel lanes will be re-opened for the 4th of July Holiday Weekend. Pedestrians and bicyclists are now using the new 14-foot-wide shared-use path on the northern side of the bridge. Please note that there no longer are SHARED-USE LANES. All pedestrians and bicyclists are requested to use the 14-foot-wide shared-use path. This will allow traffic to move freely across Bear Cut. Signs have been posted near the University Of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science directing pedestrians and bicyclists heading eastbound to cross to the northern side of the road. Signs have been posted across from the Marina directing pedestrians and bicyclists to use the path in the parkland to access the 14-foot Shared-Use Path. Rickenbacker Toll Plaza: Toll lanes 5 and 6 may be closed during weekdays for SunPass equipment installation. During weekends, lanes 5 and 6 will re-open so that all eight (8) toll lanes are operational. West Bridge: Completely open to traffic.
