Miami DDA launches inaugural DWNTWN Art Days, Sept. 7-8

Working in tandem with a variety of arts and cultural institutions, the Miami Downtown Development Authority (Miami DDA) will show its support for the area’s cultural renaissance through its inaugural DWNTWN Art Days Event, Sept. 7-8.

For the first time ever, the Miami DDA, through its Cultural Advisory Group, will partner with virtually every major art and culture institution in Downtown Miami for a two-day celebration:

Meet Your Neighbors: Mary Brickell, Thursday, Sept. 6, 5:30-8 p.m.

Miami Art Museum: Free entrance to Rashid Johnson exhibit, Friday, Sept. 7, 10 a.m.- 5 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 8, noon-5 p.m. Centro Cultural Español: Spanish photographer Isabel Muñoz’s exhibit “La Bestia” (The Beast), Friday, Sept. 7, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.

Miami Dade College Gallery at the Freedom Tower: Shutter: Selected photography and film from CINTAS Foundation Fellows Collection, Friday, Sept. 7, noon-5 p.m. Adrienne Arsht Center: Food Truck Friday, 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., and tours of the center on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m.

Miami International Film Festival: Free film screening of “Gerhard Richter Painting” at Miami Dade College, Friday, Sept. 7, at 7 p.m.

Artist Misael Soto’s “Picnic” Performance @ Bayfront Park: Misael Soto will be laying out his oversized picnic blanket for the afternoon on Saturday, 11 a.m.-8 p.m.

Art Days Walk Tour: Public art tour, Saturday, Sept. 8, at 10 a.m.

Miami-Dade Public Library: “Jean Chiang: A Journey Called Life,” Friday, Sept. 7, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 8, noon-5 p.m.

In addition to a variety of cultural events being put on by the partnering institutions, the Miami DDA will feature the “Artist Window Project” at the Historic I. Alfred Dupont Building. The window display will feature a commissioned exhibit of an upand- coming local artist, opening Sept. 7 and continuing through January 2013.

During Art Days the Miami Trolley will connect to venues in the central business district that are not currently on the route.
