Castaways Against Cancer, the Relay For Life team of the Lower Keys, again kayaked from Miami to Key West, continuing its efforts to support the American Cancer Society (ACS) for the 15th year in a row. Partnering with TotalBank for a third time, they raised nearly $133,500 exceeding their goal of $125,000.

Averaging more than 22 miles a day, the Castaways paddled a total of 160 miles during the seven-day journey, aptly named “The Don’t Stop the Carnival Tour,” for a total of 24,000 miles in 15 years.

“The Castaways have set an exemplary standard of community giving and sacrifice and we are honored to be their partners in raising funds for lifesaving cancer research,” said Luis de la Aguilera, president and CEO of TotalBank. “I am immensely proud of our TotalBank team. The overwhelming support received from bank employees, customers, and friends allowed us to raise more than $86,000, surpassing our own fundraising goal of $75,000.”

Last year, Castaways Against Cancer ranked ninth among the nation’s highest fundraising Relay For Life teams. As the Lower Keys Relay For Life team, it earned third-place in the state of Florida.

The mission of Castaways Against Cancer is to help find a cure for cancer and to honor those who have fought the fight. The money the team raises supports the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of the Lower Keys. To learn more visit www.castawaysagainstcancer.com.
