919a46f7d6e5912e950767b96c075e21It’s that time of year for the always fun, family- and pet-friendly Walk for the Animals benefiting the Humane Society of Greater Miami. Gather your family — both two- and four-legged — and walk to support homeless animals on Saturday, Feb. 28, at Bayfront Park beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Presented by Pet Supermarket, the event attracts more than 3,000 people and all proceeds go toward helping the animals at the Humane Society of Greater Miami.

You and your dog(s) will enjoy an entertaining morning filled with fun activities, games, a doggie fun zone — a thrilling and entertaining obstacle course — people and dog contests, a fabulous raffle and yummy snacks for everyone.

For all those who are looking to add a new furry friend to the family, you won’t want to miss the “Walk for the Animals Adoption Arena” where local rescue groups will bring their puppies, kittens, dogs and cats so loving and permanent homes can be found.

Miami-Dade Commissioner Sally A. Heyman will be the grand marshall and NBC6 meteorologist Ryan Phillips will emcee the event for the seventh year. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m., contests will take place at 9:30 a.m. and the one mile stroll around the park — with or without a dog —begins at 10 a.m. You can walk as an individual or form a pack.

To register for this event, visit humanesocietymiami.org or call 305-749-1825.

“Every dollar raised from the Walk goes toward sheltering more than 400 homeless cats and dogs in our care every day in our shelter and through our foster care program. In addition, the funds help support our spay/neuter services, quality adoptions, humane education and pet therapy,” said Laurie Hoffman, executive director.
