GMBHA hosts event featuring leading women in Miami’s hospitality industry

Featuring women hotel general managers from top Miami hotels, the Greater Miami & The Beaches Hotel Association (GMBHA), a membership organization comprised of hoteliers and allied members across Miami- Dade County, recently held its first “Women in Hospitality” Panel Discussion at The Ritz- Carlton Coconut Grove.

GMBHA’s president and CEO, Wendy Kallergis, hosted the event that included moderator Julie Grimes, managing partner, Hilton Bentley Hotel, and the following panelists: Peggy Benua, general manager, Dream South Beach; Laurence Dubey, general manager, Viceroy Miami; Florencia Rotemberg, general manager, JW Marriott Hotel Miami, and Jacqueline Volkart, general manager, The Ritz-Carlton Coconut Grove.

“The GMBHA currently has more than 20 women hotel general managers as members, that’s a 25 percent increase from recent years,” Kallergis said. “The purpose of this event was to recognize these amazing women and learn about their success and dedication to Miami’s tourism and hospitality industry.”

Panelists shared work/life balance tips, career advice for the younger generation, giving back to the community and how the role of women has changed in the hotel industry.

For Volkart, being on time and taking initiative should be a priority for the new generation.

Rotemberg, said, “Hiring someone that’s better than you that can cover for you when you’re not in the office” is what gives her peace of mind during the off-work hours.

All participants agreed that the world is paying attention to Miami and its hospitality industry is high on the radar. Attendees included GMBHA’s hotel, allied and allied upgrade members plus guests from Miami’s business community.
