To honor the memory of Bilzin Sumberg Baena Price & Axelrod LLP attorney Damion Dunn who passed away last year at the age of 30, the firm has established a memorial scholarship to benefit a Florida International University (FIU) student who intends to pursue a career in law.
Damion obtained his bachelor’s degree from FIU and his law degree from Harvard Law School. He joined Bilzin Sumberg’s Litigation Group in 2011. “Damion was a remarkable individual, committed to excellence as an attorney and passionate about the law,” said David Gersten, Chair of Bilzin Sumberg’s Appellate Practice and Former Judge in Florida’s Third District Court of Appeal. “Through this scholarship, we hope to pay tribute to his memory by helping to support a student who aspires to become a lawyer.”
Established as part of Bilzin Sumberg Cares, the firm’s charitable involvement and diversity initiative, the scholarship will be awarded to an FIU Honors College student, selected primarily on the basis of academic performance or potential. The recipient will receive the $7,500 scholarship over four years of undergraduate studies and must maintain a 3.0 GPA. To honor Damion’s culture, preference will be given to candidates who share his Jamaican heritage.
