The Miami Omni Community Redevelopment Agency (Omni CRA) — in conjunction with EUE/ Screen Gems Studios, Facchina Construction, and Associated Builders and Contractors — has announced that it will hold a jobs fair for the construction of the Florida Film and Television Center (formerly known as the Miami Entertainment Complex).

The jobs fair will take place on Thursday, Feb. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon p.m. on the first floor of the Omni CRA’s office at 1401 N. Miami Ave.

“Generating jobs is just the first of many benefits that the Florida Film and Television Center will provide to Omni and Overtown residents as well as throughout the City of Miami. We are very excited and hope that residents take advantage of this opportunity,” said Miami Omni CRA chair Marc D. Sarnoff.”

“More than 15 subcontractors representing a variety of construction trades will have representatives at the jobs fair. These subcontractors will be looking to hire both skilled and unskilled laborers,” said Pieter Bockweg, executive director of the Omni CRA. “Not only is the Omni CRA creating jobs for local residents, but together we are investing in the community and revitalizing the neighborhood.”

The event is free and open to the public. However, interested candidates are encouraged to register with CareerSouce South Florida prior to attending the event. Pre-event applications will be accepted on Tuesday, Feb. 17, from 10 a.m. to noon at the CareerSource South Florida office (City of Miami Center, 750 NW 20 St., Fourth Floor).

The positions currently available include: brick mason, concrete or masonry foreman, entry level carpenter, field engineer, general labor, equipment operator, pipe fitter, plumber’s apprentice or journeyman plumber, project manager, sheet metal installer and superintendent.

“We are thrilled to see construction moving along on schedule and that we are able to fully engage the community in the creation of what will ultimately become an economic and cultural asset to the neighborhood,” said Chris Cooney, EUE/ Screen Gems president.
