CocoWalk has long been known for presenting a weekly assortment of eclectic live music. As a result of numerous requests, the CocoWalk Courtyard will be adding Jazz to its roster of free outdoor performances.
Beginning in October, CocoWalk will host a variety of talented and acclaimed musicians every Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m. during Jazz Pizzazz Thursdays.
Kicking off the Jazz Pizzazz season, the versatile Campo Deluxe Jazz Trio will perform on October 4. Drummer Ronnie Brooks is a local favorite who performs throughout South Florida with an everchanging galaxy of Jazz all-stars. As band leader, Brooks has either recorded with or performed alongside such greats such as Ira Sullivan, Gerry Mulligan and Wayne Cochran and the C.C. Riders.
South Florida-based legend Ricky Williams is scheduled to perform on October 11 and October 25. The multitalented blind artist performed for 11 years at the iconic Forge nightclub on Miami Beach. A New York City native, he also performed at the Village Gate in Greenwich Village and the New Cotton Club. He has recorded with Stevie Wonder and Ben E. King, and performed with Bette Midler, Peter Niro and Sister Sledge.
Jazz maestro Mel Dancy, an accomplished musician on the piano and lyricist, will also razzle-dazzle the Courtyard on October 18. Among his many noteworthy musical endeavors, Mel has collaborated with Dizzy Gillespie, Thad Jones and the New York Jazz Quartet. Since settling in South Florida, Mel has performed at countless events and Jazz festivals, establishing himself as one of the area’s premier Jazz singers.
