The owl’s head is able to turn 270 degrees so he can see more aspects of a situation or problem. He also has excellent night vision. He can see in the dark which allows him to see all of the nuances of an issue. Being able to see in the light and in the dark is very helpful when trying to make decisions. It is important to be able to see the complete picture. Your sight gives you information that you act upon based on what you perceive to be true or real.

In western culture the owl is often the symbol for wisdom. To make truly wise decisions you need to see as much as possible in your world. To see what’s in front of you, alongside of you and behind you as much as possible.

Psychologically it would be helpful to have the owl‘s ability to see more of your surroundings, to be able to detect movement and change. How often have you said after an upsetting or disturbing event, “I didn’t see it coming”? You were blindsided psychologically and emotionally by a strike or attack that was unexpected.

The owl is also adept at seeing things that are far away which is very important. It is good to be able to see the consequences of an action you may take. Being able to see into your future would tend to make you wiser in your decisions. Less will be concealed and more will be revealed. Limited vision does not give you all the facts. The more information you have about something, the greater your understanding and awareness. You will be able to avoid rash decisions based on incomplete facts. You will be more sensitive and discriminating. You will be more empathetic. Your judgments will be better for you, your life in general and your current issues in particular. Seeing like the wise old owl is very advantageous. Keep your eyes wide open and stay flexible.
