ATTENTION! Military reservists returning home from tours of duty were recently the center of attention at a Business Expo and networking reception at the Newport Beachside Hotel and Resort. The “Honoring Our Military Event” was coordinated by the Aventura Marketing Council, joining forces with Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve and the National Association of Women Business Owners.

Business and community leaders marching into the Newport Hotel were greeted by Girls Educated and Motivated for Success (GEMS) and Police Explorer Scouts from the North Miami Beach Police Dept. As patriotic music by the Mel Olman Trio and ImageSound Americas played, everyone had the opportunity to meet a virtual army of exhibitors displaying information about diverse businesses highlighted by red, white and blue decorations.

During the Honoring Our Military Event (HOME), military reservists were welcomed home as the mission of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve was highlighted: “Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve works tirelessly to make sure our returning heroes have the ability to earn a living – giving them their livelihoods and lives back after they’ve defended ours.”

While reservists were meeting and greeting potential employers, a circulating platoon from the National Association of Women Business Owners explained NAWBO is the unified voice of America’s more than 10 million women-owned businesses representing the fastest-growing segment of the economy. NAWBO unites women entrepreneurs across all industries and is a one-stop resource for propelling women business owners into greater economic, social and political spheres of power worldwide.

Beyond three cheers for the red, white and blue Expo, applause rang out as exhibitors awarded door prizes to lucky guests including attorney Donna Joseph – now packing her bags for a two-night stay at the Newport Beachside Hotel and Resort.

The Honoring Our Military Event was the second time that Aventura Marketing Council members were invited to the Newport to network and learn more about joining in efforts to promote job recruiting for veterans.

At the AMC’s February breakfast meeting, keynote speaker James G. Rebholz, National Committee Chair for the Department and Defense, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve said, “When you hire a Guard and Reserve person, you’re getting somebody who has been tested under stressful conditions; shows initiative; is dependable and disciplined; has an innate sense of responsibility; will be drug-free, physically fit and willing to work. Everyone who has served is truly a patriot. Without these heroes, we would not have the great country we have.”

Business leaders are encouraged to visit the website floridaesgr.com and register their company to be a supporter, pledging to give preferential hiring to returning National Guard and Reserve veterans. For more information about the National Association of Women Business owners, visit nawbo.org.
