Mount Sinai Medical Center and the Columbia University Division of Cardiology at Mount Sinai welcome Dr. Juan Rivera in his new role as Director of Cardiology Prevention Education. Mount Sinai’s partnership with New York’s Columbia University Division of Cardiology is the only Ivy-League collaboration of its kind in the region and offers the ultimate in worldclass cardiac care to residents of South Florida and beyond. In his new role, Dr. Rivera will be part of Mount Sinai’s teaching program, helping to prepare cardiology fellows for a future in medicine.

Dr. Rivera is a board internist and cardiologist who specializes in the prevention, early detection and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. He completed his internal medicine internship and residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He then completed his cardiovascular disease fellowship and obtained a master’s degree in cardiovascular epidemiology at the prestigious Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. During his years in Baltimore, he became a prolific researcher and won the Johns Hopkins Stanley Blumenthal Clinical Research Award given to the best research project at an institutional level. Dr. Rivera has published many peer-reviewed articles and is a reviewer for The American Journal of Cardiology and Journal of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography. He also serves on the editorial board of the American Heart Hospital Journal.

Dr. Rivera is also the Chief Medical Correspondent for the Telemundo/NBC Network with weekly appearances on Telemundo’s national shows “Al Rojo Vivo” and “Noticiero Telemundo.” In 2008, he was the recipient of Vista Magazine’s Health Specialization Award for his commitment with the Hispanic community in the area of health education and wellness promotion.
