Design doesn’t just apply to the spaces we inhabit, says Stuart Geller, president of Geller Design Group. “The choices we make design our lives,” he asserts. “You don’t have to be a designer to make choices in your life that bring you joy, and to stay away from things that don’t matter.”
Geller has designed his own life in accordance with a kind of feng shui of personal satisfaction. At this point in his career, he says, “I don’t take on many jobs. Wonderful people keep coming into my life, many of them repeat customers or their relatives and friends. This is what makes me feel proud and successful.”
His criteria? “Basically,” Geller explains, “I like projects that are interesting for clients who are very positive individuals. It’s all about energy and alignment.”
There’s an important distinction between attachment and commitment, he says. For example, “If someone is redoing a house in order to show it off to friends, that’s attachment. It becomes a burden; there’s no joy in it. When someone is committed to making something beautiful, that positive energy fills their home with joy.
“We’re doing interviews right now for new projects. Some are renovating, and some have purchased new construction. “I am doing what I love, and I love what I do,” Geller says. “If more people did this, there would be a lot less stress in the world.”
