Juicing for Health

By Shari Lynn Rothstein-Kramer….
For those of you who do not know what I look like, I am scarcely 5 feet tall, weigh less than 90 pounds (wet) and love to eat.

I am one of the fortunate that at almost 40something years old, I can still eat just about whatever I want and it doesn’t go right to my hips or thighs…yet. And I, always being acutely aware of my stature, never take that for granted. As a matter of fact, I think that the older I get, the more thankful – and respectful – I am of my body.

My husband, who I still think, after 10 years of being together, is one of the most handsome men I know, has recently gained a few pounds and is really unhappy about it. So, in order to get his body back to the way he’d like it, he’s decided to go on a juice cleanse. I, being the supportive and curious wife that I am, decided that I had to go on this adventure with him.

It isn’t such a far stretch for me to juice as I love all things natural and vegetal. I was a vegetarian for 20 years before reconnecting with a filet mignon some eight years ago. I while I love meat, and just about everything else, there comes a time when you start getting sick of eating (yes, I did say that!).

Lately, I have been having a hard time figuring out what to eat, not wanting much of anything and that has led me to the place I am now. I have a terrace garden, where I grow mad amounts of herbs, and now it is time for me to reap the benefits of my labor. I will be drinking the herbs that I’ve grown.

Okay, so one can’t live by herbs alone – I went out today and bought a Breville juicer, as well as copious amounts of fruits and veggies to begin the cleanse tomorrow. I’ve watched more juice videos on You Tube than one could ever imagine and we will see what happens.

I am really excited. I believe that if I can survive without brownies, Werther’s candies and Hershey’s Kisses for about a week I will be fine. I do not remember the last time I went a whole day without chewing, much less without carbs or sugar. I think it will be the  beginning of a whole new me…we’ll see.
