Fifth Annual Tour de Broward Benefits Pediatric Heart Patients

Fifth Annual Tour de Broward Benefits Pediatric Heart PatientsThousands of people will join their hearts and minds to benefit pediatric patients on Sunday, February 23 at Miramar Regional Park during the Fifth Annual Invicta Tour de Broward, presented by zMotion.

Participants of all ages and abilities can cycle, run or walk in support of the Cardiac Center at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood. Last year, the combined efforts of more than 3,000 people, as well as those of the 80 sponsors, helped raise $350,000 for the Cardiac Center.

“We’re proud to have been involved in such a wonderful event in support of a very meaningful cause,” said Eyal Lalo, president and CEO, Invicta Watch Group, whose company was the title sponsor. “With everyone’s hard work, the event surpassed its goal.”

More than 800 cyclists rode in the 50K and 100K cycling challenge, while the 5K Run attracted 500 runners. An additional 600 people participated in the 3K Family Walk and the ANF Power of Play Kids’ Zone.

“We are grateful to our community for embracing this cause, which will help our pediatric patients who suffer from congenital heart disease,” said Kevin Janser, Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer, Memorial Healthcare System.

The Cardiac Center at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital has established a reputation for excellence that attracts patients from across Florida and beyond. It is staffed by some of the nation’s leading pediatric cardiac physicians. All board certified and highly experienced in their respective specialties, Cardiac Center physicians draw from current research findings and advances in clinical care to provide highly specialized care.

The program offers a broad spectrum of surgical and interventional procedures from prenatal diagnosis and early neonatal correction to repair of congenital cardiac lesions in adults. The Cardiac Center is also Broward County’s first pediatric cardiac transplant center. Since the program began in 2010, 13 children have received new hearts and a second chance for life.
