City of Aventura presents 16th Annual Founders Day Weekend November 4 – 6

If you’re planning a “Sweet 16” party for a city, you couldn’t come up with a better recipe for success than what the City of Aventura has planned. The ‘City of Excellence’ celebrates sixteen years of providing outstanding services to Aventura residents, businesses and visitors with top-tier musical entertainment, interactive family activities and of course food… glorious food!

The Aventura Mall is the Presenting Sponsor for this special weekend. The Continental Group, Wells Fargo and PGAL are the proud co-sponsors of the Arts and Cultural Center performances on Friday and Saturday evenings. The beautiful, state-of-the-art Aventura Arts & Cultural Center will kick off the 16th Annual Founders Day Weekend with a concert on Friday evening, November 4th, starring Ana Gasteyer, a noted stage, screen and Broadway star. Best known for her incomparable work on “Saturday Night Live,” Gasteyer earned rave reviews as Elphaba in Wicked on Broadway and acclaim for her nightclub act.

Saturday night November 5th will feature “Stayin’ Alive’… with songs and costumes re-creating the Bee Gees at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center once again. Re-live the days of the 60s and 70s when you were listening and disco dancing to “Saturday Night Fever” or “How Deep is Your Love” by the incomparable Bee Gees.

Bring the entire family to Founders Park on Sunday, November 6 when the park will be transformed into “Aventura’s Backyard” from 12 noon – 5 p.m. Free parking and shuttle service to Founders Day is available at the Harbour Center garage on the northeast corner of NE 188 Street and NE 29 Ave. The Aventura Express will be running a residential route schedule to and from Founders Park from 11: 30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Be sure to sample great local cuisine from your choice of several food trucks featuring local gourmet dishes at reasonable prices. Shaded dining tents will have two LCD HD TVs to watch Sunday afternoon football. Other activities include arts and crafts, airbrush tattoos, face painting, rock climbing walls, Toddler Town play area, puppet shows, and interactive video games. Check out the backyard tents with all of your favorite lawn games: punt, pass and kick contests, hula hoops competitions, old fashioned tug- of-war, three-legged and relay races, jump rope contests, volleyball, Frisbee and parachute games. The SplashPad will be open, so be sure to bring your bathing suits.

Stroll on over to the Games Tent to play bridge, bingo, Mexican Train dominoes, Scrabble, mah-jongg, cribbage, chess, checkers, or canasta with your friends and neighbors. The Aventura Teen Scene Club will be selling juice boxes, and try out the ACES Puzzle Mural where every puzzle piece becomes a part of the art. Test your golf skills at the Putt Putt Golf Course, and get a new ‘do at the Makeover Madness tent featuring glitter braids, Mohawks and spikes with a touch of your favorite colors.

The Main Stage will be providing continuous entertainment starting with the 9th Annual Aventura Star Talent Competition finals—seeking the next “Aventura Idol.” The Community Recreation Center will present dancing and singing exhibitions, game shows Aventura Jeopardy and Minute to Win It, performances by The Aventura Glee Club, a modern day “Three Little Pigs” musical skit, and an amazing magic show.
