More than 500 men, women, and children are expected to participate in the annual Walk MS event to raise awareness of multiple sclerosis and to support their friends, family, and loved ones affected by the disease.
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society will host the Walk MS fundraiser – in conjunction with title sponsor, United Automobile Insurance Company (UAIC) and presenting sponsor, Genzyme — on Sunday, March 15 at Aventura’s new library on Aventura Blvd. Check-in begins at 7 a.m. and the walk begins at 8:30 a.m.
Funding generated through Walk MS fuels critical research to STOP the disease, RESTORE lost function, and END MS forever. Dollars raised also support important programs and services to help people affected by MS address daily challenges and live their best lives. Last year, participants in the Aventura event raised more than $85,000 to support the more than 7,500 South Floridians living with the effects of MS. Every hour in the United States, someone is newly diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a chronic, often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system.
The event will include a light breakfast with coffee and juice sponsored by The Original Pancake House. Team photos, music, Champions Against MS tent, vendors, and other fun-filled activities will complete the day for all members of the community. A $50 fundraising goal is required for adults; a $25 goal is required for students ages 13 – 17. Participants who raise $100 or more will receive a commemorative Walk MS t-shirt; additional prize levels are available.
“Walk MS empowers the community to take action to create a world free of MS. The event connects people who want to do something about MS now, and the funds raised make meaningful differences in the lives of people with MS,” said Karen Schneier Dresbach, chapter president of the National MS Society, South Florida Chapter.
