Aventura Arts & Cultural Center announces a lineup of the finest cinema from Egypt, France, Germany and Italy for the 2013-14 Aventura Foreign Film Series.

Shelly Isaacs, founder/programmer for South Florida’s popular Café Cinematheque International programs, once again will introduce the films and lead post-screening discussions.

The Names of Love starts the series on Nov. 12 with the story of a young liberal girl who seduces men to convert them to her cause until she meets a man who turns her world upside down.

Beautiful cinematography and a touching script highlight Shun Li and the Poet on Dec.10. Shun Li is among the tide of immigrants in Italy where she meets an older Slav immigrant and their growing friendship is quickly threatened.

On Jan. 14, The Pool offers an uplifting coming of age tale of a young boy who feeds desire for a better life by offering his services to a wealthy homeowner only to learn that the lives of the wealthy may not be what he expected.

A suspenseful film from Christian Petzold, one of Germany’s most influential directors, Barbara will be presented on Feb. 11. Set in 1980s East Germany, young physician Barbara Wolff must weigh her dedication to her patients and newfound attraction to a man against a potential escape to the West.

Scheherazade, Tell Me a Story will be shown on March 11. For young married couple Karim and Hebba, life in Egypt is good, until her job as host of a highly rated TV program threatens his promotion at the top governmental newspaper.

The series culminates on April 1 with In the House, winner of the Critics Award at the 2012 Toronto Film Festival. The film chronicles a 16-year-old who insinuates himself into the house of a fellow student and writes about the family in essays that unleash a series of uncontrollable events.

All films feature English subtitles and are shown at 7 p.m. Tickets for individual screenings are $10 and are general admission. The auditorium opens at 6:30 p.m.
