Da-Da is an exploration of rhythm as a cultural concept that expands to connect people from various cultures

The cultural season is at its height this April as theAventura Arts & Cultural Center presents a new contemporary dance, a musical from the creators of the hit Mamma Mia!, a family musical based on a beloved fairy tale and the Miami International Piano Festival 2013-14 Season.

Choreographer Augusto Soledade presents his latest work, Da-Da, where he adopts and reproducesAfro-Brazilian rhythms, Flamenco music and dance rhythms, linking them together in this new work that promotes a hybrid cultural aesthetic. Performances are on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35.

The City ofAventura and the critically-acclaimed Slow Burn Theatre Company, present Chess: The Musical. With lyrics by Sir Tim Rice and music by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus of the rock groupABBA, Chess boasts what Time magazine called, “One of the best rock scores ever produced.” Performances are Thursday, April 10 through Saturday, April 12 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 13 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $34.50 and $39.50.

The Broward Center 2013-14 Family Fun Series concludes with Hansel and Gretel on Sunday,April 27 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Children will enjoy free pre-show art activities and face painting provided by Young At Art Museum. Tickets are $15 for individuals ($17 the day of the show) and $3 lap seats for infants 12-months or younger.

The Miami International Piano Festival closes its 2013-14 season with Russian pianist Pavel Nersessian. One of the most remarkable pianists of his generation in Russia, Nersessian is known for his ability to play equally convincingly in the whole palette of the piano repertoire. The program he has chosen for his very special debut performance at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center on Sunday, April 27 at 5 p.m., focuses on the music of Schubert and Liszt. Tickets are $30.
