When the curtain went up on the Aventura Marketing Council’s June breakfast meeting hosted by Sunny Isles Beach, hundreds of business and community leaders agreed the progressive city celebrating its 15th anniversary deserves a standing ovation for “revitalization and beautification.”
Trump International Beach Resort was the luxurious setting for the meeting featuring John Richard, star CEO of the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts Miami-Dade County earning rave reviews for helping to create the centerpiece of Miami’s cultural landscape and a true entertainment destination. AMC Executive Committee member Alan Lips, partner in the CPA firm of Gerson Preston Robinson, chaired the meeting.
Taking center stage, Sunny Isles Beach Mayor Norman Edelcup noted, “As we celebrate our 15th anniversary, we are proud to note a remarkable renaissance thanks to visionary city leaders, residents and developers sharing the desire to transform Sunny Isles Beach into a wonderful community. Green space is also an integral part of Sunny Isles Beach. We’re so proud of all the new parks we have today – and now, more are coming soon to the south end of the city.”
Mayor Edelcup encouraged “audience participation” in Sunny Isles Beach anniversary festivities and introduced John Richard, who explained the Arsht Center is celebrating its ongoing mission to “enlighten, educate and entertain the community through transformational arts and cultural experiences.”
“Thanks to the united force of the public and private sectors investing in the arts, we’re elevating our status to ‘world class,’” Richard said. “The Arsht Center is dedicated to presenting the world’s best artists; being an entertainer for children and families; a catalyst for economic growth; and an exceptional resource for the arts in our community.”
During the next act, Richard presented a preview of the Arsht Center’s exciting, culturally diverse 2012/2013 calendar highlighted by Broadway in Miami productions including the Tony Award-winning musical Memphis; Bette Midler’s Priscilla Queen of the Desert; Les Miserables; Rock of Ages; Mary Poppins; and STOMP.
The fifth season of the acclaimed Jazz Roots series presented by TotalBank will start in November; and America’s most treasured classical artists will be featured throughout the Knight Masterworks Season, Ziff Classical Music Series, which opens in January. Leysa Pelyushko won tickets to the Arsht Center’s summer blockbuster The Donkey Show, an immersive theatrical experience that blends disco music hits, go-go dancers, roller skaters, feathered divas and a full active bar.
Mayor Edelcup drew Adrienne Barker’s card as the winner of the City’s door prize — a huge basket brimming with Sunny Isles Beach goodies, including shirts, caps, books and more.
Before the last curtain call, Richard emphasized, “Your support of the Arsht Center is essential, and pays dividends ranging from economic boosts to our community – to enhanced quality of life for our residents, educational benefits for school children, and increased interest in investment from around the world.”
